About the Workshop

The international workshop on "Post-2012 International Policy Architecture for Global Climate Change" is organised by the Harvard Project on International Climate Agreements, the International Centre on Climate Governance (a joint initiative of the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei; and the Fondazione Giorgio Cini) and the Euro–Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change.

The workshop will be held in Venice, on May 14-16, 2008 and will take place in the magnificent setting of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, a celebrated monastery located on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore facing Saint Mark&s Square.

Participation in the workshop is upon invitation only.

The workshop is structured as follows.

On May 15th a one-day academic workshop will present results from the Harvard Project on International Climate Agreements. This will be useful to obtain feedback from colleagues on research-in-progress and exchange ideas about international climate change policy.

On May 16th, a stakeholders meeting will provide leaders from business, environmental advocacy, and government an opportunity to engage in a discussion about international climate change policy with one another and with academic experts. The main results of the academic workshop will be presented at the beginning of the stakeholder workshop on May 16th. Then, three panels of experts will discuss about: "Post-2012 Emissions Carbon Markets and their Implications for Competitiveness", "The Role of Developing Countries in International Climate Agreements" and "Alternative Approaches to Post-2012 Global Climate Change Agreements".

On May 14th a Welcome Reception and the visit to the exhibition "Rome and the Barbarians, the Birth of a New World" at Palazzo Grassi will open the research workshop.

On May 15th a Social Dinner in the cloister of the workshop venue, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, will open the stakeholders meeting. Dinner will be accompanied by a classic music concert.

On May 16th a visit of the exhibition "Giuseppe Santomaso and the abstract option" at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini (new Museum Hall) will close the workshop.
